One of Liberia's leading professional footballer, Zizi Roberts of Greek club
Olympiakos, has been arrested in Minnesota, United States of America on
charges of drunken driving.
Reports reaching our Sports Desk said Zizi and some of his colleague were
driving after attending a session held by some Liberians. According to our
Correspondent, the manner in which Zizi was driving, which he described as
"zigzag" prompted police patrol in Minneapolis, Minnesota to pull him over.
"When Zizi's car was stopped the police saw him intoxicated and discovered
that he was also driving without a license," our Correspondent said.
He did not say whether Zizi was sent to jail, but pointed out that the
Liberian professional player has been barred from driving for four years in
Minnesota.
"Once his name has entered the system he cannot drive in the States for four
years," our Correspondent stated.
Zizi is presently on vacation in the States. He has also gotten married to
his long-time Liberian fiancee' who has been residing in the United States.
The youthful Liberian player has also purchased a house that cost
US$225,000.
This is the second time that Zizi has fallen in trouble with police in the
developed world. It can be recalled he was arrested in Greece when he was a
player for Panionios and found with a fake check. The check was reportedly
given to him by Panionios' President.
After the intervention of FIFA and LFA, Zizi was released and the club
President taken to court by the Liberian player for giving him a fake check.
Zizi Roberts is one of the key players Liberians can rely on for
international engagements henceforth. He is a utility player. He played a
key role in the last Nations Cup finals in Mali as well as in the '2002
World Cup finals which Liberia missed by one point.
Meanwhile, Zizi is expected to return to Greece to join his team in summer
camp in preparation for the 2002-2003 league season.
