To Enhance Reconciliation Through Sports:
Bishop Francis Wants Weah, Others Return

September 25, 2002

Archbishop Michael K. Francis has added his voice to thousands of Liberians calling on George Weah and other Liberian professionals to come back home for the sake of genuine reconciliation.

Addressing journalists recently at the Executive Mansion immediately after President Taylor delivered his nation wide address on the lifting of the State of Emergency and ban on political gathering, Archbishop Francis said the return of Weah and other professionals who are reluctant to return home will auger well for the country.

Bishop Francis further averred that the Ministry of Youth and Sports and the Liberia Football Association (LFA) must take the initiative in reuniting the former players with their Liberian counterparts.

Meanwhile, the Liberia Football Association has released the Lone Star lineup for the pending Nations Cup qualifier against Niger. According to our LFA contact, three new names have been added to the old list. The addition includes Fallah Johnson, Alvin “Power” Kieh and Anthony Ballah.

Although George Weah says he’s willing to join the team if he’s called, his name was conspicuously left out. Other pros who missed out being recalled are James Debbah, Oliver Makor and Zizi Roberts.

Lone Star takes on Niger on October 13, 2002 at the SKD Sports Complex in Paynesville in the second round match of the qualifiers
