Three Liberian FIFA-badged referees are
expected to return home today following their assignment in Togo, where they
officiated a match between Togo and Mauritania in the ongoing 2004 Nations
Cup qualifiers.
Chief referee Idrissa Kaba, Jacob
Jeetoe and Buster Synder were selected by the Confederation of African
Football (CAF) to officiate the Togo/Mauritania match.
The match was played on October 13, 2002 in
Lome, with the home side winning 1-0. Chief referee Idrissa Kaba served as
Center Referee, while Jacob Jeetoe and Buster Synder served as Assistant
Referee number One and Two respectively.
The three Liberian FIFA-badged referees
left the country last week to take up the assignment. Reports coming out of
Togo have it that the three Liberian FIFA-badged referees exhibited high
degree of performance, something which won them admiration not only from the
home fans but the visiting team as well.
The recent assignment was the fourth given
Liberian referees this year by CAF. Three other Liberian referees officiated
in the same Togo on the U-20 level between Togo and Angola, which the
Togolese won as well.
Meanwhile, another Liberian FIFA-badged referee
Augustine Gooding served as Reserved Referee for the Liberia vs. Niger
match. Referee Gooding was seen executing his duty with distinction as
reserved referee during the match between Liberia and Niger.
In a related development, football fans have
hailed the Liberia Football Referee Association (LIFRA) for ensuring that
Liberian referees perform up to expectation. |
