NATIONAL BASKETBALL TEAM FOR TOGO SOON


The Liberia National Basketball Team is to shortly travel to Togo to engage its Togolese counterpart, the President of the Liberia Basketball Federation (LBF), Philipbert Brown has disclosed.

Mr. Brown made the disclosure Thursday when he and others were sworn into office to steer the affairs of the Liberia Basketball Federation (LBF) for four years.

He said the President of the Liberia Bank for Development and Investment (LBDI), Mr. Francis Dennis, has already provided six sets of jerseys and other sporting materials, including sneakers to strengthen the team in the pending international encounter.

Mr. Brown also disclosed that LPRC OILERS, this year’s basketball league champions is to travel to Gabon soon to participate in a competition in that country. He did not however say whom the OILERS are going to engage in Gabon and in which competition.

Meanwhile, several players have been awarded medals for their outstanding performances during the just-ended basketball league season. Among those who walked away with medals at Thursday’s ceremonies were Nimely Walker of UHURU KINGS, highest scorer, Suah Williams and Bashu Toure of LPRC OILERS won the most valuable player title.

In the female division, Amelia Wiah snatched the MVP title, while Julius Marcho won the title in the second division.

Also at Thursday’s program, LPRC OILERS and UHURU KINGS were awarded trophies as national league and knockout champions respectively, while K-Delta walked away with the championship trophy in the female division.

At the program, officers of the National Basketball Federation were sworn into office. Among those sworn in were, Mr. Philipbert Brown, President, Gbour Wilson, vice president for administration, Lamuel Sherman, vice president for operation and Patrick Sumo, chief referee, among others.

In his inaugural speech, Mr. Philipbert Brown who spoke on the topic, “Our Quest To Serve Humanity,” said their election for four years is a call to service and duty and not a call to be masters or Lords of those who elected them.

“We must strive to make personal sacrifices to improve the well-being of our subordinates and for the overall improvement of the sports (basketball) by portraying a positive attitude for our young men and women to emulate,” the LBF president said.

“Our vision must not waver and lose its focus of the task we are elected to perform,” Mr. Brown further reminded his corps of officers.

Youth and Sports Minister, Max Dennis and Liberia Bank for Development and Investment (LBDI) President, Francis Dennis (not brothers) graced the occasion.
