Omega,Dulee, Wleh out of Debbah’s 24-man squad
By Boy Dolo
The defender has again been left out of Coach James Debbah’s squad as the Country prepares to battle Togo on June 5, 2016 at the Antoinette Tubman Stadium (ATS) in Central Monrovia.
Liberia only recognized Europe based center defender Omega Roberts has been excluded from the Lone Star team for the crucial 2017 Africa Cup of Nation qualifier against the Sparrow Hawks of Togo next month.
Roberts made the team for the two-legged tie with Djibouti recently, but will give way for Patrick Gerhardt who is currently unattached after he was sacked by Malaysian Super League side Sarawak FA earlier this season.
The former Gedi & Sons defender who plays in Serbia for FK Donji Srem operates well as a marking- defender and many had thought he could have been included to take on the lanky Togo’s captain Emmanuel Adebayor as he did against Angola’s Mateus Alberto Contreiras Gonçalves alias Manucho in the 2012 Nations Cup qualifier at the ATS, the match finished nail-nail.
Roberts, 6ft, 3inches could match the Crystal Palace striker who is of the same height. Adebayor scored a late winner against Liberia in the first leg last year, using his loftiness to overpower the Liberian defense.
Also dropped from the team is Midfielder Dulee Johnson who currently plays in the Norwegian top flight for Molde FK. Johnson who has got over 25 caps for Liberia was also in the squad that defeated Djibouti back to back.
Also excluded from the squad is former LISCR FC striker Patrick ‘Ronaldinho’ Wleh who plies his trade in Malaysia for Selangor.Wleh has been a regular under Debbah, but failed to perform in the last four matches played by the country.
He fumbled against Ivory Coast in the first leg of the 2018 World Cup preliminaries in Monrovia and was dismal against minus Djibouti.
The rest of the players out of the squad are Melvin George of Myanmar and Marcus Macaulay of Jordan who were members of the previous list.
Meanwhile Debbah has included former CSK Moscow attacker Sekou Jabateh Oliseh. The 25-year old struggled for club after his contract with the Russian Club expired in 2015, going eight months without a club.
He signed a four-month contract with Romania Champions Astra Giurgiu in March of his year and this has led to his call even though he did play a single match for the Champions.
Jabateh has been one of the regular stars in the team, since making his debut against Zimbabwe in 2010.
Also returning is Francis Forkey Doe who has been out since Liberia played Guinea-Bissau in the 2018 World Cup preliminaries in Monrovia as well as Tonia Tisdell, Mulbah Urey, and Patrick Gerhardt.
Liberia is topping group ‘A’ with nine points, while Tunisia and Togo follow with seven points each.
