Togo line up international friendlies
Raymond Domenech is set to come up against Togo a decade after facing the West African country as manager of France at the 2006 World Cup.
Domenech who is now the coach of Brittany and the north-west region will play Togo, coached by his compatriot Claude Le Roy, in Lome on May 22.
Ten years ago in Germany, France beat the Hawks of Togo 2-0 in Cologne to qualify for the 2006 World Cup knockout stages.
The French team captained by Zinedine Zidane made it all the way to the final where they lost to Italy on penalties.
Next month's game in Lome is meant to raise money for a cancer charity.
The Togolese other friendly scheduled with Gabon Panthers on 27 or May 28 has been cancelled by the Gabon Football Federation (FEGAFOOT).
Following considerations put forward by the head coach of the Panthers, the Gabonese Football Federation decided to cancel the scheduled match against Togo in favor of Mauritania, a press statement by the Togolese Football Federation said on Tuesday.
However, the Togolese Football Federation said it intends to find other opponents for the hawks before flying to Monrovia to face Liberia in the 2017 African Cup of Nations qualifier on June 4.
"The TFF took immediate contact with other federations to conclude another friendly for hawks of Togo, before the matchday five with Liberia," the statement from TFF reads.
Meanwhile, Togo new coach, Claude Leroy has contacted Corentin Tolisso to convince him to join the hawks nest ahead of the crunchy qualifier with the Lone Star.
The French technician told l’équipe.fr that the hawks need players of talent and character like Tolisso.
"I'll try to convince him, even though I know that I have little chance" Leroy admitted.
The young midfielder of Togo origin has a great chance with France, having played for the youth team.
"I cannot deny Togo, my family country of origin, but I was born and I grew up in France" the Olympique Lyonnais player said.
Corentin Tolisso, who was voted by l’équipe as the best French player last season has four goals in 31 appearances with Lyon this season.
The 21-year old is also on the radar of premiership leader, Leicester City for next season. The English club has already qualified for next year European Champions League.
