Timothy Weah Follows Dad
By Numennie Williams
Paris Saint-Germain haven't had to look too far for a top transfer window signing; indeed he's currently part of the youth set-up at the Paris club. He goes by the name of Timothy Weah, and yes, he is indeed the son of George Weah, the Liberian ace who became a real icon at AC Milan, Chelsea, Manchester City and also at PSG itself, amongst other clubs.
Like his father, the 15-year-old Weah is a forward. "I was playing for New York Red Bulls, but I wanted to come to Europe to progress faster. I was on trial at Chelsea, but I've always been attracted by France, and in particularl by PSG. Watching the likes of Zlatan Ibrahimovic, Lucas and David Luis is great... I hope that I too one day will go on to play for this great club".
Weah was born in New York, but the French Football Federation are said to be interested in seeing the PSG youngster swap allegiances and play for their national youth teams: "I was born in New York, it's my home country, but I also like France. At present, I'm playing for the United States U-17s and we're preparing for the next World Cup. However, as for the future, I still haven't decided which country I'll represent".
In an interview given to Le Parisien, a proud George Weah certainly wasn't sparing in his praise of his son: "I'm not just saying it because he's my boy, but Timothy has got some great qualities: he's quick, has got a striker's instinct and he listens to the instructions from his coaches. I don't think that my name is a burden, he knows all about my career. I always tell him that talent alone isn't enough, and that hard work is also needed if you want to make it".
