Dulee Joins EUROPA League Contenders Molde FK

By Wleh Bedell

Liberia's second most decorated player, Dulee Johnson, is back to the summit of top flight football, courtesy of him putting pen to paper in a one year deal with Norwegian elite side Molde FK.

The 31 year old enterprising playmaker who officially joined the club on January 9, 2016, is expected to make the creative department of the 104 year old club more menacing to opposing teams.

The 25 cap Liberian international who was the youngest member of the senior national team of Liberia the Lone Star at the 2002 African Nations Cup during the era of the famous "Weah 11", aged, 17, has joined the club managed by former Manchester United net buster, Ole Gunnar Solskjaer, who was a member of the triumphant UEFA Champions league side in 1999 against German outfit Bayern Munich.

Dulee who featured for Norwegian Second Division club Moss mid last season, scoring eight goals from eight matches, has since rejuvenated his career and is now back on track after a torrid past.

The orchestrator who gained Swedish citizenship in March 2010, has since become an European Union (EU) player as he is said to be set to spray the passes and exert his usual influence in the middle of the park which will lift the Norwegian side in the Tippeligaen as the top flight league in that Scandinavian country is known.

The club which ended at the sixth position last season, is one of only two Norwegian clubs to play in the UEFA champions league and have being drawn in the EUROPA Round of 32 against reigning champions Sevilla with the first leg away on February 18, 2016 at the 42,500 Ramon Sanchez Pizjuan in Spain and the second leg at home on February 25, at the 11, 800 Aker stadion.

Molde FK reached this stage after topping group A in the EUROPA ahead of Turkish club Fernabache with 11 points from six games.

The son of veteran Liberian sports administrator Josiah Johnson, Dulee has had expeditions in Sweden, Turkey, the Netherlands and South Africa and is a player whose short crisp simple passing game makes him an ideal European styled footballer.

Formerly known as International, Molde have won the Norwegian elite league (Tippeligaen) trice, in 2011, 2012 and 2014.

They have also won the Cup four times, 1994,2005,2013 and 2014.

According to reports, Molde's manager Solskjaer who has managed Manchester United reserves from 2008-2011 and Cardiff City in 2014, told Dulee before the trial that he has been monitoring him as a player for a long time and only told him "go and enjoy yourself", something that served as an impetus to the genuine playmaker who shined with the club during the one week trial.

Solskjaer who netted 91 goals in 235 games for Manchester United during his heydays as a player and 31 goals in 38 games for Molde in the 1995/'96 season, has got a good acquisition in Dulee Johnson who is eager to help the club. "I am grateful to God for such an opportunity and I pray that he will give me the strength and desire to do my best in helping Molde FK achieve their goals", the former AIK of Solna player noted in a dispatch.

With the Lone Star in dire need of a playmaker, the James Debbah led technical staff must start being ecstatic as their elongated search is over and must grab such opportunity with both hands as the Lone Star brace itself for the March double header against Djibouti.

The descent passer has won the Toto Cup with Israeli side Meccabi Tel Aviv in the 2008/09 season, the Swedish Allsvenskan with AIK in 2009 and the Svenska Cupen and Super Cupen with the same club in 2009 and 2010. He has also won a plethora of awards with the Monrovia FC youth side from 1997-1999 in the Gothia and Dana Cups in Sweden and Denmark respectively.
