Liberia Wins Second Place at WAFU

Liberia local team on Saturday was awarded the second place medals at the just ended West African Football Union WAFU tournament in Senegal.

The Liberia team defeated Guinea Bissau 1-0 in the third place match with the only goal of the game coming from Barrack Young Controllers Striker Van –Dave Harmon in the 29th Minute of the Encounter.

The Striker hit the ball at the back of the Guinea Bissau Net after receiving a passed from Sporo Somah and beautifully control it in the eighteen yard Box and placed it with his right foot at the Back of Bissau Net.

Both teams complained about the hot weather which prevented them from playing their usual football.

Christopher Jackson Header was denied by the Central Referee on grounds that the ball did not cross the goal Line. The LISCR attacker before his goal was deny could have put the Junior Lone Star ahead but miscalculated his shot in the 20th Minute.

After the Third place game Saturday, host Senegal and Gambia played out the Full Ninety Minute to a goalless draw.

After which they were ask to played additional thirty minutes something that was not agree upon during the technical Meeting.

The Gambia Team refuse to play the thirty Minutes because they were only told on the field about the Thirty minutes of Added time but according to the Tournament Rules during the final game after the full ninety minutes the game will go into addition time and if no winner it will be decided by Penalties shot out.

All efforts to appeal to the Gambian team did not materialize as the Senegalese Team was awarded the three points and crown Champions while Gambian team was deny their second place medals.

Liberia was awarded the second place Medals while the third place medals were given to Guinea Bissau.

Meanwhile the Final Game was officiated by Liberian Referee Jerry Yekeh
