Too Late For Training in Germany

National football team coaches, James Salinsa Debbah and Kelvin Sebwe could not participate in the three weeks’ special coaching course in Germany owing to arriving late for the course.

The duo missed the two-day orientation, which was scheduled from Saturday – Sunday, September 5-6 and were therefore asked to return home on Monday.

The president of the Liberia Football Association, Musa Bility in a poignant tone on a morning radio show, said Salinsa and Kelvin missed the opportunity owing to bad weather that caused Kenya Airways to delay its flight.

Bility didn’t state whether the flight was cancelled yesterday or later the airline resumed its flight after the bad weather or how many hours were delayed.

Bility said according to the guidelines, participants were to only miss a day’s orientation - meaning the missing of a two-day’s orientation is tantamount to expulsion.

“Fortunately, Debbah and Kelvin aren’t the only persons denied, so there are possible arrangement for another opportunity, maybe in Italy or England,” Mr. Bility said.

The German Government organizes the international coaching training, which was scheduled from the 7th to 25th of September.

This will be the first time for local coaches, managing the senior Lone Star team, to attend a specialized coaching course in Germany.

The incredible 1-0 victory over Tunisia on Saturday moved their flight to Sunday.

Reports said the coaches are expected to visit Holland to watch a game between Holland based Liberian players and a 2nd division team, for possibly recruiting of players before returning to the country.

The recruiting of potential players is to boost the team in the joint qualifier of the 2017 African Cup of Nations and the play-off of the 2018 World Cup qualifiers.

According to the draw of World Cup 2018, Liberia is paired with Guinea Bissau.

The two countries must play the two-leg between 8th and the 13th of October.

It has been confirmed that Liberia will host Guinea Bissau on the 8th and play the return on the 13th.

The winner will play Cote d’ Ivoire in the group stage of the qualifiers of the 2018 World Cup.

There will be no qualifying game for AFCON in 2015, until the weekend of March 23-26, 2016 and Liberia will play her second away game in Djibouti City against the Djibouti.

Djibouti will play her return leg on the weekend of March 26-29, in Monrovia, which will mark Liberia’s fourth game in the 2017 Afcon qualifiers.

Liberia will also play host to the Sparrow Hawks of Togo on the weekend of June 3-5, 2016 and play her last game away in Tunis against the Carthage Eagles of Tunisia on the weekend of September 2-4, 2016.
