The Liberia Football Assiciation 1st Division League ended in style yesterday after LISCR FC ended the season unbeaten following its 1-1 draw against Keitrace FC.

Yesterday’s draw was the Shipping Boys 12th out of 22 league matches that crowned them champions of the 2016/2017 season.

Keitrace outstanding forward Amadiah Kawah put the visitors in front in the 40th minute when he directed a low cross into the back of the net.  The goal was the forwards 18th of the season in all competitions. However, LISCR later in the 45th minute gave a perfect replied after former Barrack Young Controllers’ striker Trokon Myers flipped in forward Edward Ledlum long cross that was earlier intercepted by striker Christopher Jackson.

With just a point needed to become champions, Coach Tapha Manneh’s side kept the visitors on their feet. Striker Myers during the opening minutes got a clear opportunity to put the league leaders ahead, but failed to convert the opportunity.

Keitrace tried to upset the leaders by threatening their defense. The match was played between the two sides also anticipating the result between former champions BYC and LPRC Oilers at the Blue Field.

BYC was hoping for Keitrace to secure a win while also fighting for a win against Oilers. But the Go Blue Boys struggled at their home grounds for a win against their opponents.

The match ended in a goalless draw that witnessed the Oil tankers boys tasting relegation for the first time.

Having won this year’s championship, neither a trophy nor an end-of-season campaign was hosted at the Antoinette Tubman Stadium.

In the other result in Kakata, Mighty Barrolle survived relegation after a one-all draw against Monrovia Club Breweries. Already relegated Invincible Eleven ended their campaign in the First division with a 3-1 win over the “Church Boys” of Jubilee.

At the North Star Sports pitch in Mount Barclay, despite playing with nine players throughout the match, Nimba United defeated Watanga FC to end its 2016/2017 campaign.

Meanwhile, there are reports that the Soccer Missionaries, FC Fassel has filed an appeal against the 12 points deduction after they were found guilty of a complaint filed by rivals LISCR FC, but there has not been any official statement regarding the appeal from the FA.
