Liberia number one referee Isaac Montgomery will officiate the CAF Champions League second leg paring between Mouloudia Club D’ Alger of Algeria and DR Congo’s FC Renaissance according to a communiqué from CAF Headquarter in Cairo, Egypt to the young referee.
The gamed will be played on March 10, 2017 at the Algiers-Stade with kickoff at 7:45 Liberian time and 8:45 North African time.
Montgomery will be assisted by Abraham Boye Fahnbulleh and Sekou Kanneh as assistant one and two. Both men were recently badged by the Liberia Football Referee Association (LIFRA) as FIFA Assistant referees.
They are expected to make their debut appearances on the international scene. Experience Jerry Yekeh will serve as fourth official.
Yekeh recently officiated the CAF Champions League paring between Wa All Stars of Ghana and Al Ahli Tripoli of Libya, the encounter which the Libyan won 3-1.
Cape Vert’s Joel Amarante Ramos Barros will serve as the Match Commissioner.
The assignment is his second biggest in recent time for the ‘golden boy’ referee (Montgomery).
In 2016, Montgomery handled an African Cup of Nations qualifying match between Mauritania and Gambia.
Montgomery was for the fourth time named the best referee on the local scene last season.
He was awarded the best referee in the 2012-2013 and 2013-2014, 2014- 2015 seasons respectively. His qualities, high and controllable speed, endurance, tactical movement, coupled with good hands-on knowledge of the laws of the game and their implementation have earned him a firm place on the local scene.
In 2013, Montgomery emerged tops of the FIFA's young and talented referee course in Cairo, Egypt.
Few months later, he participated in the Confederation of African Football (CAF) young talent referees course, which took place in Yaoundé, Cameroon, where he also finished as the top participant.
