BYC (Liberia) versus FC Johansen (Sierra Leone)
The Champions of Liberia Barrack Young Controllers will face Sierra Leon FA Cup Champions FC Johansen in a club friendly at Antoinette Tubman Stadium Sunday January 29, 2017. 3:45pm kick-off.
The two sides have met on three occasions with BYC having the better record as BYC-II knock out Johansen from the CAF Cup in 2013 after Johansen lost away 1-0 and played BYC-II to a goalless draw in Freetown.
The fixture comes two days after BYC was defeated at home to Fassell FC in the title race of the 2017 LFA first division league. Fassell increased their winning spread to six game undefeted.
Both teams are using the match as warm up for their CAF Champions League and CAF Confederation Cup match. BYC-I will face Stade Malien while Johansen will lock horns with Moroccan top flight club Rus Rabat on the weekend of February 10-12 2017 in Freetown.
Johansen arrive in the country on Friday and had their first training session at Blue Field the home of BYC.
BYC president Sekou Konneh said Sunday’s match is important for the club’s preparation for the Champions League.
“We are using this game to get our players in the right frame of mind to face Stade Malien.”
He said BYC is having difficult times in the league, which happens, but is sure that they will make Liberians happy against Stade Malien noting that it will start from Johansen game but said playing at the local stage and international is different.
“Johansen is a good team to test our boys against because they played good football something that may be similar to our opponent Stade Malien.”
FC Johansen coach John Keister said he’s expect a good game against BYC but said the result does not matter all he hopes to see is a tough match.
“We want to see our players against a foreign team in different situations and what is important is to play in different environment.”
Johansen also may have another friendly match against LFA Cup winners and Super Cup winners Monrovia Club Breweries on Tuesday at the same venue the ATS, though up to press time, it has not been confirmed.
