The traditional rivals began life in the top flight of Liberian Football on a difficult footing after conceding defeats on Sunday.

Liberia Darling Club Invincible Eleven (IE) and rival Mighty Barrolle suffered respective defeats against Jubilee FC and Monrovia Club Breweries on Sunday at the Antoinette Tubman Stadium (ATS) in Central Monrovia.

Both sides are returning to the top flight of the Liberia Football Association (LFA) National League after a period of absence.

Borrolle were relegated about three seasons ago before gaining promotion last season while IE failed to participate last season due to reported lack of finance.

IE under the watchful eyes of former Club record-scorer Joseph Hina lost 2-1 to Jubillee FC as striker Emmanuel Wlemie missed a penalty.

Jubilee took the lead in the second half with Kanmanue Folee droving through before placing the ball right near goalkeeper James Kulubah.

IE restored parity five minutes later with Sam Smith handing a Robert Jackson’s through pass intended for Wlamie.

Wlamie giftedly curved the ball at the right end of the pole to level the score. IE was again awarded another penalty four minutes later through another handball in the Church Boys area, this time goalkeeper Augustine Bulieh denied Wlamie, making a superb save.

Jubilee got the needed result in the 81st minute as substitute Joseph Mento lashed home a Nuzorn Martor’s left wing cross. The match was IE first competitive engagement in more than a year as they failed to compete in the last edition of the league.

IE, rival Mighty Barrolle who are returning to the First Division after three seasons also went down 1-0 to Monrovia Club Breweries also on Sunday.

Benjamin Sackor’s free header was enough for the triple champions who defeated Barrolle in last season LFA Knockout Championship on the same score line.

On the opening encounter of Friday, Champions Barrack Young Controller kicked off their title defense with a narrow 1-0 win over Sensational LPRC Oilers.

BYC dominated the game with lots of opportunities against the new looked Oilers side coach by former Nimba United’s Kollie Korvah.

The “Go Blue Boys” could have, punished the Oil Boys in the first ten minutes of the game as Sporo Somah made several excellent crosses that top goal scorer Mark Paye could head in from close range but did little to capitalize on.

With three minutes to the end of the first half Sporo cross was headed in by the ageless mid-fielder Sylvanus Morris in the 42nd minutes from close range to give the Blues a 1-0 lead.

Ma Watta Watanga defeated Nimba United 1-0. United dominated the ecounter, but were sluggish up front.

On Saturday FC Fassell dragged ELWA United 5-1.James Watala scored a brace from the spot, with Farsedu Logan Terence Tisdell and Sam Kollie adding the other three. Emmanuel Nimely got the consolation for ELWA Utd.

Earlier Liscr FC were held to a 1-1 draw by Keitrace FC.The league will continue this weekend.
