Speaker Tyler Poised To Take Over Mighty Barrolle
By Sylvester Worwee
Barrolle Sport Association Board is expected to convene an emergency meeting in Monrovia shortly to deliberate on the proposed takeover of the club by House Speaker Alex Tyler.
BSA Board Chairman, Cllr. Theophilus C. Gould is reportedly backing Speaker Tyler takeover bid and has been locked down in consultation talks with his colleagues on the board to confirm the Speaker as the next ‘Rollers’ president.
But an insider of the second division outfit, who begged not to be named, said Speaker Tyler is being firmly challenged by Madam Esther Richards, a former president of the club.
Our source further hinted that thought some members of Barrolle board are in support Madam Richards’ second spell, majority of the Rollers membership is opposed to another female rule.
He described former president, Julia Duncan Casselle’s regime as the worse in the history of Barrolle existence.
Under the leadership of Madam Cassell, Mighty Barrolle football team was relegated to the 2nd tier of Liberian football and subsequently escaped relegation to the 3rd division on two separate occasions.
The former Grand Bassa County Superintendent who defeated Lemuel Sherman in an in-house election held in 2010 was forced to quit early this year after stakeholder of the club reportedly refused to work with her.
Members of Madam Cassell leadership inducted into offices in July 2010 and include: Joyce Reeves Woods, Vice President for Administration (VPA); Edwin Sackor, Vice President for Operations (VPO) and Mr. Eugene Nagbe, Secretary General.
Others were: Alhaji G.V. Kromah, Vice President for International Relations; Legerhood Rennie, Vice President for Public Affairs and Philemon Meon, Assistant Secretary General.
The rest were: Abraham Workpo, Vice President for Mobilization; Ester Gibson, Financial Secretary and Grace Kpan, Chaplin General.
The Speaker according to our source has been and remains a staunch supporter of Mighty Barrolle.
But the coming of the ‘messiah’, especially when the 2017 presidential election is looming around the corner has raised serious eyebrows.
Speaker Tyler is the vision bearer of the Liberian People Democratic Party or LPDP with eyes on the Presidency come 2017 and many people see his coming to Mighty Barrolle now as another political rhetoric aimed at using football as a scapegoat to accenting to the nation’s highest office.
