Cellcom Makes Another Major Investment in Liberian Football
The Management of Liberia's best GSM Company, Cellcom Telecommunications has announced that it will sponsor the participation of the Barrack Young Controllers (BYC)'s participation in the CAF Confederation Cup.
Speaking at a press conference in Monrovia yesterday, Cellcom's Corporate Communications Strategist, Dr. Kimmie Weeks, emphasized that Cellcom's support for BYC would enable it to participate and excel in the tournament. While the first BYC vs. Kwakab Marrakesh match will be played abroad, the return game is scheduled to take place on Sunday, March 20th at the Antionette Tubman Stadium in Monrovia.
Dr. Weeks noted that Cellcom's decision to support BYC was due to the company's long and sustained history of supporting football in Liberia. Said Weeks: "Cellcom has become biggest supporter of football in Liberia through our sponsorship of the National Team, The Cellcom National Leagues and now support for teams who are participating in matches on the regional level." He thanked Cellcom's more than one million customers noting that their loyalty to the company was essential in the company's ability to support football in Liberia as well as many other Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) platforms.
Mr. Emmanuel G. Kaykay, Coach of the Blues expressed thanks to Cellcom for its support and indicated that the team was presently practicing multiple times a day to prepare for its away and home matches.
"I am confident in BYC right now and yet we are still putting in extra time to prepare them further." Mr. Kaykay said. Reiterating remarks by the coach, BYC's captain Mr. Alpha E Jalloh revealed that the BYC players were being prepared mentally and physically to wreak havoc on their Moroccan counterparts. "We are ready to face and defeat any foe," said the confident Alpha Jalloh.
Also speaking at the event was Mr. Horatio Willie Communications Officer at the Liberia Football Association (LFA) who in turn thanked Cellcom for its support for football and encouraged other division team to see Cellcom's support and Nimba United as an opportunity to raise themselves to a level so as to attract corporate interest and sponsorships.
"We at the LFA and especially our President, Mr. Musa Bility believe in a vision of commercialization and Cellcom has always been the company to lead the way in this area."
Dr. Weeks says tickets for the game will go on sale in the next few days at the Cellcom Headquarters on Capital Bypass, at all Cellcom Point of Sales at Total Service Stations, and at Cellcom branch stores. Tickets will be on sale for VIP US$100, Around VIP US$50, and around the field for US$5.
