Nimba Utd Hosts BYC II in Super Cup on Saturday as 2015/16 LFA-Cellcom Fixtures are Released

The Liberia Football Association has released the 2015/16 Cellcom Fixtures with the season expected to begin with the LFA Super Cup match between last year’s First Division Champions Nimba United and last year’s LFA Cup Winners Barrack Young Controllers II on Saturday, December 5, 2015 at 3:30pm at the Antoinette Tubman Stadium.

According to the Acting Secretary General of the LFA, Emmanuel O. Deah, the various clubs competing in the various divisions this season will converge at the Antoinette Tubman Stadium for the Official Opening Program before the Super Cup match.

The LFA Super Cup is an annual match contested between the champions of the previous First Division season and the holders of the LFA Cup at the Antoinette Tubman Stadium. It is usually held the week before the regular league season begins.

Meanwhile, the 2015/16 Cellcom National Leagues season will run from Wednesday, December 9, 2015 to Sunday, June 26, 2016. The season will begin on Wednesday, December 9th with Second Division matches followed by First Division matches on Thursday, December 10th while the Women’s Division will begin matches on Friday, December 18th.

Cellcom First Division

The Liberian First Division, formerly the Liberian Premier League is the highest division in football in Liberia. The first division league began in 1956 was never won by a club outside Monrovia until Nimba United won the 2014/2015 edition. It has been dominated by Mighty Barrolle FC and Invincible Eleven FC. The league is organized by the Liberia Football Association. In 2010, the league became known as the Cellcom Premier League for sponsorship reasons and it’s now called LFA-Cellcom First Division League.

The 2015/2016 Cellcom First Division league is expected to commence on Thursday, December 10, 2015 and end on Sunday, June 19, 2016.

    •  The 2015/2016 Cellcom First Division league will see 12 clubs competing for the Championship. Nimba United FC will be looking to defend their title, while Barrack Young Controllers (BYC), FC Fassell, Invincible Eleven (IE), Keitrace FC, LISCR FC, LPRC Oilers, NPA Anchors, and Watanga FC  are returning from last season. Newly promoted Second Division clubs ELWA United, Holder FC, and Mighty Dragons will be hoping to remain in the division.
    • The 12 Clubs will play a total of 22 matches (11 home and 11 away).
    • Matches will be played at several venues across the country, including three venues in Montserrado County (Antoinette Tubman Stadium and the Blue Field in Monrovia, and North Star Sports Stadium in Mount Barclay); two venues in Margibi County (Nancy B. Doe Sports Stadium in Kakata and the Unification Town Sports Stadium near Harbel); as well as one venue in Bong County (Gbarnga Sports Stadium in Gbarnga).
    • The Champions of the 2015/2016 Cellcom First Division will be the club with the highest amount of points after all 22 matches are played. The Champions qualify for the 2017 CAF Champions League Preliminary Round. The Champions will be awarded a cash prize of LD $900,000 while the Runners-Up will receive LD $262,500.
    • The three bottom-placed teams will automatically be relegated to the Cellcom Second Division.

Cellcom Second Division

The Cellcom Second Division League is the second highest division in football in Liberia. For the 2015/2016 season, there are 12 clubs competing in the Second Division.

The 2015/2016 Cellcom Second Division league is expected to commence on Wednesday, December 09, 2015 and end on Sunday, June 19, 2016.

    •  The 2015/2016 Cellcom Second Division league will see 12 clubs competing for the Championship. First Division relegated clubs Monrovia Club Breweries, Jubilee FC, and Aries FC will be looking to bounce back up to the First Division. BYC II, Mighty Barrolle, Mighty Blue Angels, Gardnersville FC, Small Town FC, and New Hope FC are returning from last season while newly promoted clubs Bendu FC, Sidina FC, and Fair Play FC will be looking to step up in the Second Division or gain promotion to the First Division.
    • The 12 Clubs will play a total of 22 matches (11 home and 11 away).
    • Matches will be played at six venues across the country: Antoinette Tubman Stadium and the Blue Field in Monrovia, Montserrado; the Nancy B. Doe Sports Stadium and the Unification Town Sports Stadium in Kakata and Harbel, Margibi County, respectively; as well as the Doris Williams Sports Stadium in Buchanan, Grand Bassa and the Sanniquellie Sports Stadium in Sanniquellie, Nimba County.
    • The Champions of the 2015/2016 Cellcom Second Division will be the club with the highest amount of points after all 22 matches are played. The Champions will receive a cash prize of LD $393,750 while the Runners-Up will receive LD $140,625.
    • The Champions along with the second placed team and third placed team are promoted to the Cellcom First Division.
    • The three bottom-placed teams will automatically be relegated to the LFA Sub-Committee Leagues (3rd Division).

Cellcom Women’s Division

The Cellcom Women’s Division League is highest division of women’s football in Liberia. After taking a hiatus during the 2014/2015 season, the Women’s Division will return this season with seven (7) clubs.

The 2015/2016 Cellcom Women’s Division league is expected to commence on Friday, December 18, 2015 and end on Sunday, June 19, 2016.

    •  The 2015/2016 Cellcom Women’s Division league will see seven (7) clubs competing for the Championship. Those clubs include the 2013/2014 Champions Earth Angels as well as the 2013/2014 Runners-Up Senior Pros. Other clubs to compete include Blanco FC, Bushrod Island Queen FC, Determined Girls FC, Pro Sisters FC, and World Girls FC.
    • The 7 Clubs will play a total of 12 matches (6 home and 6 away).
    • All matches will be played at the Antoinette Tubman Stadium in Monrovia, Montserrado.
    • The Champions of the 2015/2016 Cellcom Women’s Division will be the club with the highest amount of points after all 12 matches are played. The Champions will receive a cash prize of LD $168,750 while the Runners-Up will receive LD $56,250.
    • There are no Promotion.
    • The two bottom-placed teams will automatically be relegated
