Nimba United Wins LFA Championship

The determined Nimbah United has been crowned champions of the first division of the Liberia Football Association.

The red and white outfit achieved the feat after a deserving 3-2 penalty shootout against LISCF FC at the Antoinette Tubman Stadium (ATS) in Central Monrovia with regular time ending goalless for the second.

It can be recalled that both teams settled to a goalless draw in the first leg played in LISCR home.

Titus Cooper, probably the best local player of the moment, who is as well Captain of the Mountaineers, motivated Nimba United with another master card performance that kept the entire LISCR FC back four standing tall from the onset of the match to the end.

The championship is Nimba United’s first ever top flight crown.

The club will now represent Liberia in next year’s February Confederation of African Football (CAF) Champions League.

Meanwhile, Bong County’s based second division outfit, Mighty Dragons was crowned champions of the LFGA second division with a 2-0 win over ELWA United in the first leg, while the second leg drew yesterday goalless at the ATS.

At the same time, the junior team of Barrack Young Controller (BYC II) won the LFA Known out championship known as the FA Cup.

The youthful outfit best Monrovia Club Breweries in post-match penalties after regular time and extra time ended goalless.

The club will represent Liberia in the CAF Cup competition next year.

In another football development, Mighty Bsarrolle survived relegation on Saturday with a hard earned 1-0 win over Joy Conqueror FC at the ATS after the first leg ended goalless.

River Cess County Senator, Francis Saturday Page and other prominent Mighty Barrolle fans were available to give Barrolle moral support.

The ‘Kanyan Pepper Boys’ will be struggling for promotion to the topflight for the fourth time after being relegated from the topflight.
