In Maryland County: St. Francis High School Captures LFA Tourney -Drags Pleebo High Male And Female Squads

The St. Francis Catholic High school in Pleebo city, Maryland County recently captured the LFA Pleebo Sub-Committee tournament when they drew with the soccer squad of Pleebo High school, thus taking the trophy on goal aggregate.

The Liberia Football Association (LFA) Sub-Committee in Pleebo organized a tournament which brought together three outstanding high schools in the city of Pleebo. The schools were St. Francis, Pleebo High and Cavalla Rubber High.

St. Francis High school, according to the Chairman of LFA Sub-Committee in Pleebo, Nathaniel K-Sneh Saydee was awarded the LFA trophy on goal aggregate. Although he said Pleebo High school drew with St. Francis 0-0 in the grand final, but she accumulated high number of goals.

Chairman Saydee added that the essence of the tournament involving the three high schools was to promote good sportsmanship and unity.

Mr. Saydee, then concluded that the LFA Pleebo Sub-Committee is hoping to organized similarly tournament in the not long distance future which will involve Elementary as well as Junior High schools.

Meanwhile, the female soccer squad of St. Francis Catholic High school over the weekend broke the hearts of the female team of Pleebo City High when they whipped them 1-0 in Pleebo City.

The match was played at the Pleebo high school sports pitch brought together hundreds of spectators comprising school faculty staffs, students, as well as ordinary sports lovers.

The first half ended goalless. Back from recess, the girls of the St. Francis Catholic school worked overtime to register the much needed curtain raiser in the forty minutes of the second half making the score 1-0 in favor of Catholic girls.

After the match the Principal of St. Francis Catholic high school, Jackson W. Weah, told our Correspondent that their match with Pleebo high school was just a friendly one but was intended to promote oneness and unity in sports between the two schools female teams.

He concluded that his school is hoping to play more friendly matches with other Government institutions in the county.

For his part, the Director of Sports of Pleebo High School Abraham Wutue said the football game was anybody's game. He said he was never discouraged about his school's 1-0 defeat to St. Francis Catholic high school.

Mr. Wutue, further added that the match could serve as a motivating factor to encourage and improve their girls team at Pleebo high school.

In another development, the chairman of LFA Sub-Committee said an exhibition match will shortly take place between St. Francis and Mighty Electrons during the presentation of the trophy for just ended tournament.
