One of Liberia's leading midfield maestros, Kelvin Sebwe, has expressed
concerns about the National football team, the Lone Star's preparation in
the on going 2002 African Cup of Nations qualifiers.
In an email dispatch to journalists, midfield kingpin Sebwe said "I really
hope preparation is being made now and not the last minute, for it is
imperative that the team goes to the Nations Cup. We still stand a Chance
when we act quickly."
Player Sebwe who formed part of the Lone Star that participated in the 2002
Nations Cup finals in Mali, is said to be in readiness to join his
colleagues once an invitation is extended from the technical staff of the
Lone Star through the Liberia Football Association (LFA).
Kelvin Sebwe is one of the most experienced players on the Lone Star and is
regarded by Liberians as the next leader of the team. He captained the Lone
Star on several occasions during the qualifying rounds of the 1998 World Cup
and Nations Cup qualifiers.
Apart from former skipper George Weah and celebrated soccer star James
Salinsa Debbah who announced their respective retirement from the national
team after serving for close to 16 years, the likes of Kelvin Sebwe, Oliver
Makor, Zizi Roberts, Prince Daye, Frank Seator, Edward Zico Dixon, John
Menyongar, Fallah Johnson, George Gebro, Louis Crayton, Jimmy Dixon, Dulee
Johnson, Josiah JB Seton, Josephus Yenay, Musa Shannon, Christopher Wreh,
Victor Konwlo among others are quality players the Lone Star can still boast
of.
Football pundits are hoping that the technical staff will put into proper
prospective the mechanism required and select those quality players the Lone
Star needs for the match against Niger.
In another development, Kelvin has disclosed that his club has advanced to
the next round of the Asian Cup on the away goal rule. He said after having
their Kuwaiti counterparts 2-0 in the first leg, his team lost 3-1 in Kuwait
in the return, but qualified on the away goal rule. He scored those two
weeks in their home match |
