Our Sports Desk has learned from credible sources that
the technical staff of the National football team, the Lone Star, has
selected nine foreign-based players to form part of the squad that will face
the Mena of Niger come the weekend of October 11-13, 2002.
The players' names have already been forwarded to the
Liberia Football ssociation (LFA), who has reportedly sent invitational
faxes to their respective clubs requesting their services for national duty.
Those selected by Technical Manager and his Staff
include goalie Louis Crayton (Switzerland), Prince Daye (France), Oliver
Makor (Greece), Kelvin Sebwe (UAE), George Gebro (Greece), Jimmy Dixon
(Sweden), Dulee Johnson (Sweden), Alvin "Power" Kieh (Cyprus) and Fallah
Johnson (Indonesia). There are unconfirmed reports that Josephus Yenay, who
is currently playing in Portugal, has been selected as well and will be
invited in case one of the nine does not show up.
The Ministry of Youth and Sports has communicated
to the LFA that the Government will only be in the position to fund the
bringing in of nine foreign-based players.
Already another foreign-based defender
Varmah Kpoto has arrived in the country and has joined the local based in
training for the match against Niger. Kpoto had been in Ivory Coast after
his contract expired in Greece last season. His manager is said to be
looking out there for a new contract.
Another foreign-based player who is in town is
Frank Seator. It is not known whether he will be invited to train. Since the
match against Guinea, this paper learned that Seator has not returned to
Qatar for reasons best known to himself.
There are speculations that the technical staff
have decided to leave him out due to drop-in-form, evidenced in the match
against Guinea. Many Liberians who watched the Guinea versus Liberia on
television spoke highly of the Qatar-based player's poor performance.
Some football pundits have meanwhile advised that Seator should be invited
to training since he is still in town because nobody knows whether all of
the foreign-based invited will show up.
In another development, Indonesia-based defender Fallah
Johnson is urging to the Liberia Football Association to send his fax early
enough to enable his coach release him. "I am a key defender on my team. My
coach needs to know whether I am invited for national duty so that he can
find a replacement on time before I leave for Liberia. I there urge to the
LFA to send my fax soon," Fallah said.
When the LFA Secretariat was contacted, it said as far
as it is concerned the faxes of players' names given by the technical staff
have been sent to their respective clubs. |
