In the Wake of Unprecedented Drubbing:
Barrolle Dissolve Technical Staff
Launch Full-scale Investigation into Match-fixing
August 28, 2002

Following an incredulous 5-0 spanking last Sunday by George Haddad’s Alliance FC at the Antoinette Tubman Stadium, the Barrolle Sports Association yesterday dissolved its entire technical staff and caretaker.

According to a BSA release quoting Barrolle president Lewis Brown, an interim technical staff will immediately conduct investigation among players to ascertain evidence of match-fixing.

The interim technical staff, headed by renowned Liberian coach and former Lone Star player Josiah N. Johnson (alias JNJ), has been further mandated by the Executive Committee to immediately submit its finding for prompt action, the release said.

Barrolle was last Sunday dragged 5-0 by Alliance FC in a do-or-die match for George Haddad’s boys. A loss for Alliance would have meant missing the elite Big Eight league.

Meanwhile, officials, staff and players of the Alliance FC say they are “shocked” over allegations of match fixing.

An Alliance FC release issued yesterday dismissed the allegation as unsportsmanlike.

Mr. Haddad assured the public that his team is geared towards promoting the youths of Liberia and in investing substantially in training and educating to develop its team to uplift the standard of football in Liberia.

Alliance is therefore urging all television stations to replay the game so that the public can discern for themselves if indeed the match was fixed.

This is the second Alliance defeat for Barrolle since the inception of LFA 2002 national league. Alliance flogged Barrolle 3-2 at the beginning of the league.
