Sunday, October 27, 2002 Monrovia, Liberia

As congratulation messages keep  pouring in on the Liberian national soccer team for the recent victory over the Mena of Niger in the ongoing African Nations Cup qualifiers, an Algerian-based Liberian professional is commending Coach Kadala Kromah, the technical staff and players of the Lone Star for “bringing joy to our nation”.

“I must commend the team, especially our local players, for their tremendous effort in bringing pride to our nation in Africa’s most prestigious tournament,” said Abdullah Kamara.

According to a Press Release signed by the Public Relations Manager of the young Liberian international striker, the former Obeco Ranger linchpin who now plays Division One football in Algeria for J.S. Kabilee also called on Coach Kromah to concentrate on bringing more laurels to Liberia, if he (Kromah) must remain a household name outside of the country.

Commenting further, the Algerian national football league highest goal scorer asked players of the national team to put aside personal differences and keep the dreams of Liberians alive by qualifying for the African Nations Cup finals.

“We owe this much to the Liberian people,” Kamara said.

Abdullah Kamara, alias “Coach Bracket” has established himself as Algeria’s hottest African import. Besides being the highest goal scorer with 12 goals in the 2002 Algerian national football league, Kamara was recently voted the Most Valuable Foreign Based Player in Algeria.

“Football in Algeria,” says Kamara “is very competitive, in comparison to West African football which is strenuous and highly physical”.

He said the availability of training facilities in Algeria is a major factor for the development of football in that country, and called on those responsible for Liberia’s sporting programs to establish training academies where kids who are interested in the game would be conditioned to fill in the gap left by aged players.

Kamara who is currently on training camp in Algeria’s third capital Ananaba, promised to return home December to spend “the season with my Liberian people”.

“Thereafter, I will be leaving for Portugal, with three Algerian players, to justify my inclusion with a leading first division side that has expressed interest in enlisting my service,” Kamara has revealed.

Concluding, Kamara admonished local players on the Lone Star to take their training serious, adding, “Opportunities abound outside once you take your training serious and remain disciplined”.
