Zeogar Wilson
Against “Changes” At Sport Ministry

By Julu M. Johnson, Jr.
Former Lone Star goalkeeper D. Zeogar Wilson has alleged that the
position of Deputy Minister for Youth does not exist at the Ministry
of Youth and Sport.
The contention by Wilson sparked up after President Ellen
Johnson-Sirleaf appointed another former Lone Star player, Jonathan
Boye Charles Sogbie to the post in question.
Wilson, in a written communication addressed to the Chairman of the
Senate Standing Committee on Youth and Sports, contended that the Act
of the National Legislature that created the National Sports
Commission, which was later elevated to the Ministry of Youth and
Sport made provisions for a Minister, a Deputy for Administration, an
Assistant Minister for Administration, Assistant Minister for Youth
Services, Assistant Minister for Vocational and Technical Services and
Assistant Minister for Sports.
According to him, there is currently a Deputy Minister for Operations
at the Sport Ministry, which, he said, was created by the
administration of Dr. Amos C. Sawyer to accommodate warring factions.
He argued that the act did not also make provision for the position.
The former Mighty Barrolle goalkeeper added that the position created
functional problems at the Ministry because there were no defined
terms of reference for this Deputy Minister.
Presently in the United States, Mr. Wilson served as both Assistant
Minister for Administration and Sports for five years during the
administration of former President Charles Taylor. |
