3/ 12/ 2004 Monrovia-The Youth Soccer Promoters under the dynamic leadership of Mr. Papa Kamara is holding a U-13 & 15 soccer mock County Meet tournament among former child soldiers and others.

The Tournament is being held at the famous Walker Soccer pitch located at the corner of Broad and Lynch Streets.

According to Youth Soccer Promoters President, Papa Kamara, the tournament is aimed at encouraging those child soldiers who participated in the Liberia civil war out of ignorance to see reason and disarm to the United Nations Peace Mission in Liberia (UNMIL).

He said his organization is interested in the development and growth of the former child soldiers," We can only help by conscientizing that disarmament is the beginning of reintegrating them in the larger society," he said.

The opening program was graced by UNMIL Police Chief, Mark Kroeker, who hails from the United States, the National Commission on Disarmament, Demobilization, Rehabilitation and Reintegration (NCDDRR) legal Aide also graced the ceremony.

The two institutions hailed Youth Soccer Promoters for initiative and promised to work along in encouraging the children to disarm. They said soccer was one tool that is being used to conscientize the child soldiers about disarmament.

Meanwhile, the games commenced with the 15 political sub divisions participating.

In another development, kids representing the counties are calling on UNMIL to directly get involved in the youth disarmament tournament.
