Willie Assures
Liberia's Olympic Participation

By Julu M. Johnson, Jr.
Ahead of the 2004 Olympic Games in Athens, Greece, the Chef de
Mission for Liberia is confident that the country will take part in
the festival.
Speaking following his arrival from Casablanca, Morocco, where he
was attending the Pre-Delegation Registration Meeting, Willie said
all 26 athletes selected by Liberia have registered.
He noted that the 26 athletes will be involved in three sporting
events, table tennis, swimming and track and field.
According to him, the Pre-Delegation Registration Meeting
was held to conduct the final registration for the Olympics,
especially for West Africa.
However, Willie stated that the actual and final Delegation
Registration will take place on July 28 in Athens where the final
listing for the Olympics will be done based on qualification.
Despite assuring Liberia's participation, Willie said he
counts on the government to support the Liberia National Olympic
Committee (LNOC), which he is also serving as Assistant Secretary
General.
Willie believes without government's helping hand, it would
become difficult to see the Liberian delegation leave the country
for Athens.
