Who Becomes Sports Minister?
-Kofa Tipped
By Julu M. Johnson, Jr.

Amidst reports that the Civil Society Movement has offered the  Ministry of Youth and Sports to the youths of Liberia, a young Liberian political activist is tipped to head the ministry.
At the age of 29, Amos Teah Kofa hopes to be arguably the youngest person to head the Ministry of Youth and Sports.

Speaking about his ambitions during the week, Mr. Kofa, who obtained a Bachelor Degree from the University of Liberia this year, if preferred, stated his intentions to incorporate all sporting disciplines under the Youth and Sports Ministry.

Kofa further declared that a Sports Ministry under his authority would discourage the idea of soccer being the so-called dominant event, stating that all sporting events such as kickball, tennis, track and field, basketball and swimming will be prioritized.   "No one sport will be inferior to the other," said Kofa.

He also promised to resurrect the National County Sports Meet which has been paralyzed over the years.   "The County Meet which has the propensity of reuniting the country will be reawaken if I am chosen for the task."

Mr. Kofa called on the various sporting federations and associations to work with the Sports Ministry during the pending period so that the dream of a viable sporting program can be achieved.

Having observed the numerous problems faced by the National Team relative to the acquisition of funds for international engagements, Kofa assured that, if selected, there would be no administrative bottlenecks in releasing funds for the Lone Star.

In so doing, Kofa mentioned, "we will lobby with lawmakers to see to it that a room will be provided for extra budget to make the work of the Ministry very easier. The issue of the budget will be lobbied with the Legislature."

To the youths of Liberia, meanwhile, Kofa said he would be under the moral obligation to put into place the necessary programs which will discourage young people from toting guns but to rather consider themselves as parts and parcels of the nation building process.

He reminded the youths that: "The future of Liberia lies in the hands of the youth and so it is about time the youths themselves took into their hands the mantle of authority which will enable them put into place the necessary mechanism for their development and their future."

Kofa expressed his preparedness in making it the duty of the Sports Ministry  to ensure that its presence is felt everywhere in the country.
