Weeks
to Take Over LFA Secretarial?
April 5, 2006
Two of the World's leading players, Lilian Thuram and David Beckhan
once said that "football is a rumor factory and there would always be
speculative rumors to make the most beautiful game attractive." In
view of this, something interesting seem to be coming to the fore at
the LFA, as rumors have it that Madam Sombo Izetta Wesley is
contemplating on recommending Beauford O. Weeks as the next Secretary
General of the Liberia Football Association (LFA) to replace the
current chief scribe Yanqueh Borsay.
Mr. Weeks, who is an outgoing executive committee member of the LFA,
lost by a huge margin to Adolf Lawrence for the position of Vice
President for Operations of the LFA on March 18 at the LFA Congress in
Kakata, Margibi County.
Reports say the Executive Committee Members will however scrutinize
whatever name is put forth by the President. Other reports have it
that the FA boss could take what many would term as a unilateral
decision in appointing the Secretary General.
There is however a general view that the position of the Secretary
General should be opened if Mr. Borsay is to be replaced.
By this, they mean, people should be afforded the opportunity to apply
for such noble position.
At the same time, there are credible reports linking former
international defender Washington Blay as head of the technical
department of the local football house.
This position is currently occupied by La Max Kardoe, and if the
writings are already on the wall, then it would be another interesting
issue.
Mr. Blay played a pivotal role in Madam Wesley's triumph over Ex-Vice
President for Administration, Siaka Sheriff, and observers wonder as
to whether the time has come for the man fondly named "Defender
Minister" year's back, for his resilience in defense for club Barrolle
and Lone Star to get his reward.
There are others, however, who maintain that Blay is a highly
experienced, erudite and passionate football follower and any decision
to make him hold such position would certainly be in the interest of
developing the country's football.
