We Lack Experienced Players - Coach Roberto Landi

interview

Liberia lost 3-0 to the Warriors of Zimbabwe in the penultimate Group A 2012 Afcon qualifier in Harare.

It was a heavy defeat for the Lone Star who just could not find the solution on how to break down the Warriors even though they had very good chances in both halves of the game.

Roberto Landi the Liberian coach admitted to Cafonline.com that they lost to a better team and that his youthful squad with an average of 21 lacks the experience to mount a meaningful challenge when playing away from home.

Cafonline.com: Roberto this is a game you needed to win but losing 3-0 effectively puts your team out of contention for the ticket to Afcon 2012. What are your comments on the game?

Roberto Landi: Zimbabwe was a better side than us honestly. We are a youthful team and we lack experience. This team has an average age of 21 years so we need a balance between mature and younger players if we want to be competitive.

Cafonline.com: In the second half you were able to force some fine saves from the Zimbabwe goalkeeper.

Roberto Landi: Yes indeed. In the second half we reacted well to the goals and tried to press down Zimbabwe but we conceded another goal and that mad things difficult for us.

Cafonline.com: Your captain Anthony Laffour missed a great chance in the first half that could have made a difference if you had scored.

Roberto Landi: It was actually three chances that we could have done better with. Maybe if we could converted one them into a goal the complexion of the game could have changed. But this is football and we find ourselves in this position because we did not take the chances we created.

Cafonline.com: What is the way forward now for your team?

Roberto Landi: Now our focus is the qualifications for the World Cup and the group match against Mauritius as well our final group A game in October against Mali.
