Washington Blay Suffers Suspension

By Julu M. Johnson, Jr.

Former Lone Star and Mighty Barrolle defender Washington Blay has been declared suspended by the old-timer club he has been playing for.

The action of suspension for time indefinite was taken against Blay by the Veteran Old-timer Sports Association (VOSA), based in the West Point Township.

The suspension action was contained in a written communication addressed to Blay on April 16, 2009.

The man popularly known as ‘Defense Minister’ was informed by VOSA: “Please be informed that you are hereby suspended for time indefinite for acts incompatible with your status and your unruly behavior meted out against the Acting Financial Secretary and the Chief Medical Officer of the supra-mentioned Association immediately after our interactive encounter with the Slipway Old-timers in the Sinkor Old-timers Invitational Tournament held at the S.K.D. Sports Complex in February 2009.

Your actions were not only an affront to the aforesaid officials but also a recipe for besmearing the hard-earned image of our noble Association.”

The Veteran Old-timer Sports Association stated to Blay that while serving his suspension, he is to desist from participating in all of the activities of VOSA pending the review of his status and the lifting of said suspension.

“It is hoped that this decision will serve as a medium through which you will see reason to reshape your thought and conscience as a founding member whose sole responsibility is to conform to and uphold the core values for which VOSA stands. Kindly note that the repeat or recurrence of such unwholesome act will leave the Association with no alternative but to pursue the ultimate administrative action against you as per the standards, principles and regulations of VOSA,” the team indicated in its communication to Blay.

The former national team defender is a founding member of VOSA and also served as captain for the team. The action by VOSA may undoubtedly bar Blay from partaking in any old-timers football games until the indefinite suspension is lifted.
