Walker Field Come Alive Today

WANGO Peace Tourney Kick-Off Teams In High Spirit With just few hours from now the femurs Walker Soccer Pitch is expected to be the place for a spectacular football action today in a three-day tournament among Youth, Students, and Interest Groups in the country.

The three-day soccer event, sponsored by Sun Moon Federation through the World Association of Non Government Organizations, will play under the theme Play Soccer Make Peace.

According to the organizers, the competition is expected to galvanize the support of the youth, students, and nterest groups in building peace across the country.

They said the competition will play on a knockout basis, and all participating teams would receive prizes that should be used in building peace in their communities.

Among groups expected to participate in the tournament are the J.J Roberts Scholarship Students Association, Optimist Youths of Sinkor, Perfect Gentlemen of Gardnerville and the Champion of the UNMIL Youth soccer Tournament.

Other participating groups include the Press Union of Liberia (PUL), Liberia Ex-combatant Anxious for Development (LEAD), Center for Media Studies and Peace Building (CEMESP) and the Youths Against the Proliferation of Small Arms.

At the formal launching ceremony today, it is expected that several officials of government and leader of the civil society and eace building organizations are also expected to attend the program.

The leaders of the country's warring faction have also been invited to attend.


Already, the Director of the Mano River Peace Forum, Dr. Oumar Ndongo, has flown into the country to grace the tournament. The grand final would be played at the Stephen Tolbert Estate Sports Pitch.

Meanwhile reports say the participating teams which are expected tp participate in the three-day soccer event are in high spirit.
