The acting President of third division side Vai
Town F.C., Siafa Corneh, is rallying his players to make amends after
three consecutive years of failing to qualify for the second division.
The team which is perceived to be one of the giants
in Bushrod Island football has made several great starts but had
always failed in the last stage of the Liberia Football Association (LFA)
league.
Last year they made superb runs with a barrage of
winning streaks but their surge was reduced to nothingness by Regeon
F.C. in the LFA knock- out stages.
However, the President, fully cognizant of his
team's waning prestige, believes that the right moment has arrived for
his team to make the forward leap.
'It will always be difficult, but we are hungry for
laurels' he said.
Corneh intoned that his team has the requisite
experience, adding that it is a huge asset to their pending league's
campaign.
Every player, he disclosed shares the same dream.
'They all want to qualify for the elite division'
Corneh averred.
Corneh attributed last year's bad omen to financial
constraint.
Vai Town F.C. formerly called Gorden F.C. was
founded by Dakina Gorden in the early 2000s.
The team’s name was changed in 2005 in a bid to
make it an inclusive team, but since then Vai Town F.C. had failed to
accumulate the positive response from fans and stakeholders in the
community.
Corneh, who has been acclaimed for his vital and
solitary role in keeping the young lads together, revealed that
contacts had been made for the residents of Vai Town to take over the
team but to no avail.
Vai Town is one of the country's most commercially-
active communities occupied with several foreign merchants and
'investors'.
However, Corneh said none of them is willing to
take over the team.
The team is currently chasing four players and,
Corneh said, they are poised to sign two of the players.
There is however growing anxiety in the team over
the imminent exit of talisman and striker Andriv Anderson who reports
say, is on his way to Liberia's premier side Roots F.C.
