UL, UMU, DONBOSCO, AMEU Clash Tomorrow

The Sports Commission on Broad Street will tomorrow be a scene of spectacular basketball action as the University of Liberia based Trojans Social and Athletic Club weeklong basketball competition kicks off. The competition is in honor of Hon. Edwin Snowe, former President of the Liberia Football Association and current Managing Director of the Liberia Petroleum Corporation (LPRC).

According to the organizing Chairman, J. Bryant McGill, the four-day Inter-University Familiarization Basketball Tournament will bring together top universities in the city.

Mr. Bryant named the participating universities as the University of Liberia (UL), Don Bosco Polytechnic, the African Methodist Episcopal University (AMEU) and the United Methodist University (UMU).

The University of Liberia and United Methodist University will take the stage in the first match while Don Bosco Polytechnic and the Africa Methodist Episcopal will close the day's action.

According to the organizing chairman, the competition is intended to recognize the humanitarian services of Mr. Snowe to the youth, especially in the area of education.

In another development, Mr. McGill has commended the Minister of Post and Telecommunications, Mr. Lenn Eugene Nagbe for identifying with the organization, which he said is in its embryonic stage.

Despite financial constraints, he said Mr. Nagbe has committed himself to youth oriented programs, something according to him should be emulated.

As an appreciation of their sacrificial services to the state and its suffering youths, Organizing Chairman McGill said the organization has resolved to confer the highest honor of distinction upon Messrs Nagbe and Snowe the "Noble youth in the Order of Brotherhood Redemption for Education".

Meanwhile, latest reports reaching The Analyst's Sports Desk say revealed that all of the participating universities have attached importance to the weeklong basketball competition.

According to the reports the varsity Boys of the University of Liberia has been on camp in preparation for tomorrow's encounter with the United Methodist University.

At the same time, reports also have it that the administration of the United Methodist University has promised to give LD$10,000 to the basketball squad if she prevails over her rival.

Even though these reports are yet to be confirmed, all is reportedly set for the official kickoff of the weeklong basketball bonanza. All of the participating universities are said to be in high spirit awaiting the start of the basketball duel.
