--As IE’s Coach Appeals To Fans
The Royal Boys of Liberian basketball, Uhuru
Kings are topping the first round of the Liberia Basketball Federation
National league following weeks of intense basketball action.
At the end of six games played by each of the
seven teams in the LBF Premier League, Uhuru Kings won five games
against defending champions, LPRC Oilers, NPA Anchors, Invincible
Eleven (IE), Bushrod Bulls and Raiders. The Kings only lost to Mighty
Barrolle. The Royal Boys accumulated a total score of 471 points from
six games.
Closely challenging the Kings are defending
champions LPRC Oilers. The Sensational Oil Boys also won five games
against NPA Pythons, Mighty Barrolle, Invincible Eleven (IE), Raiders
and Bushrod Bulls. Unlike the Kings, the Oil Boys accumulated the
total score of 456 points from six games.
NPA Anchors are third on the table following six
games. The Deadly NPA Anchors won four games against Mighty Barrolle,
Invincible Eleven (IE), Raiders, Bushrod Bulls and lost two to Uhuru
Kings and LPRC Oilers. They also accumulated a total score of 531
points.
Mighty Barrolle are fourth on the table due to
points difference with Pythons. Like the Pythons, the Rollers have won
four games against Uhuru Kings, Raiders, Bushrod Bulls and Invincible
Eleven (IE). They have accumulated a total score of 469 points from
six games.
Invincible Eleven (IE) are fifth following their
failure to win enough games. The Yellow Boys won only two games out of
six against Raiders and Bushrod Bulls and lost to LPRC Oilers, Uhuru
Kings, NPA Pythons and Mighty Barrolle. The Yellow Boy have
accumulated a total score of 347 points.
Bushrod Bulls are lying sixth after winning only
a single game out of six. The Bulls lost against NPA Pythons, Uhuru
Kings, LPRC Oilers, Mighty Barrolle and Invincible Eleven (IE). The
Bulls have accumulated a total score of 282 points out of six games.
Lying at the bottom of the table is little
Raiders. The Raiders have lost all of their games against
Mighty Barrolle, NPA Pythons, LPRC Oilers, Uhuru Kings, Bushrod Bulls
and Invincible Eleven (IE). They have accumulated a total score of 298
points out of six games.
The second round is to shortly commence. Already
the first round of the LBF Knockout Competition has commenced in
Monrovia.
Meanwhile, the newly appointed head coach of
Invincible Eleven Majestic Sports Association
basketball team, Eric Watts, has appealed to fans, supporters and
sympathizers not to panic over the Yellow Boys recent poor performance
in the ongoing LBF’s 2003 Championship League.
Coach Watts, speaking to reporters shortly after
his team’s humiliationat the hands of traditional rivals Mighty
Barrolle, said IE’s poor performance in this year’s premiership league
comes as a result of poor preparation coupled with the lack of proper
fitness on the part of the players.
He said IE, before the commencement of the 2003
Championship League, recruited young and talented players who are
finding it difficult to be blended to produce the much needed results.
Coach Watts, who took over the team few days before the
Mighty Barrolle match, emphasized that he has begun a comprehensive
training program to have IE adequately prepared to make a major come
back during the second round of the LBF league which commences
shortly.
“We need more balls for our players to practice more
free throws and do lots of running to put our team in good form,”
coach Watts stressed.
