Director Neewalay Foresees Prospect For Kids

An overseas based sports academy, Club Hummer Futbol in
Boston USA has expressed interest in working with Liberian
kids and developing future talents for the nation.
Presenting some sporting items to the National Youth Street
Soccer program (NYSS), Ms. Geraldine Pierre said that the
club, where her kids are currently schooling has developed
the passion in fostering a relationship with a Liberian
based academy program.
She expressed how impressed she was with the level of
development she noticed with the kids who are currently on
the NYSS program and indicated that with the partnership
with an overseas group it will help further improve the
kids.
“I am so happy that something is in place here in Liberia,
but still much needs to be done,” she added.
“I am also astonished about the turf that the kids are
playing on but there is a need to have grass by now,” Ms.
Pierre indicated.
According to her, they are optimistic that the program will
be an interchangeable one where kids from the National Youth
Streets Soccer program can travel to the United States and
affiliate with their counterparts at the Hummer Futbol
Academy.
She then challenged the local coaches to continue their
service in the direction of nurturing talented kids for the
future, stressing that they will best serve the country when
they are properly managed.
“There are lots of talented kids in Liberia and so we need
to tap into those talented ones,” Ms. Pierre added.

“I am like a liaison person right now and so I will take the
message to the club making sure that Liberia be part of the
beneficiary countries,” she stated.
Responding to the gesture, the National Youth Street Soccer
(NYSS) boss, Thomas Neewalay said that he was happy that a
Liberian can prevail on an overseas group to come and assist
the kids in Liberia.
Coach Neewalay told our reporter that they currently have
over 200 kids on the program and boasted that the kids are
growing and maturing effectively.
He lauded Ms. Pierre and the overseas Club Hummer Futbol for
initiating the relationship.
Coach Neewalay further commended the Actionaid International
for being the first institution to provide them with
finance.
He said that their financial contribution greatly helped the
program and will appreciate were other well-meaning Liberian
institutions emulate their example.
According to him, the kids need the opportunity and that if
they are financially supported the program will be extended
to other parts of the country very soon.
The presentation was done over the weekend at the ATS where
the kids normally meet on Saturdays for training sessions. |
