The Lone Star meets the Lions of Senegal on Sunday, October 10, 2004
in Monrovia.
Ahead of the clash, a Special Committee to Raise Funds for the team
has begun work.
The committee, headed by the former Liberia Football Association (LFA)
President Edwin Snowe, was set up by the Standing Committee on Sports
at the Liberian Parliament.
The exercise began on Thursday and generated US$20,000.00. Africa
Motors gave US$3,500.00; National Port Authority (NPA) donated
US$2,000.00 and US$5,000.00 from the Liberian Petroleum Refining
Company (LPRC).
The Committee also received US$5,000.00 from the Haddad Group of
Companies, US$1,000.00 each from CEMENCO and K and K Trading Company,
US$500.00 from Petro 1 and US$1,000.00 was given by SIGMA. Fouani
Brothers contributed US$500.00, while US$1,000.00 came from MOTC.
The Sethi Brothers pledged US$2,500.00, City Builders promised
US$1,000.00 and Beever Company vowed to give U$500.00.
The committee intends to use portion of the money to settle two of the
four-month salary owed the Lone Star technical staff.
The committee is, meanwhile is expected to continue the exercise up to
the day of the match around Monrovia.
The committee also comprises the Inspector General of the Commerce and
Industry Ministry Kai Farley, the Deputy LPRC Managing Director
Emmanuel Zoe Pennue, Deputy Sports Minister for Administration D. Max
Leboe and the Lone Star Fund Drive chairlady Joyce Reeves Woods.
Others are Deputy Sports Minister for Operations Peter W. Vuku, Madam
Joane Hill and Sports Writers Association Vice President Horatio Bobby
Willie. The Ex-officio is the House Chairman on Sports Buster Verdier
as well as Stanley Saywahn. |
