U-23 Beats SDU All-Stars

July 27, 2006
The long awaited July 26 Independence Day Celebration off season
football tournament got underway yesterday with the U-23 National
team of Liberia clinching a 3-2 victory over the Soccer to Develop
the Underprivileged (SDU) All-Stars at the Antoinette Tubman Stadium
(ATS).
The U-23 side, with the hit man Nozohn Kulala of Mighty Barrolle,
showed their SDU-All Stars the stuff they are made of.
In front a huge crowd, the more illustrious local based players
started the fray on a cautious note with the SDU-All Stars getting
on the front foot.
But, as the game progressed, the Lone Star danger man Kulala 7th
minute through pass to Alex Nimely resulted into a penalty when
Nimely was brought down in vital zoom.
The spot kick was perfectly converted by Nozohn Kulala to put the
Lone Star up.
LISCR perfect finisher Ben Martin increased the score in the 9th
minute before Boima Golafalay reduced the score in the 18th minute.
Player Martin was again on target in the 32nd minute for Lone Star
to end the first half at 3-1 in their favor.
Back from recess, the SDU-All Stars reinforced the striking line
with the Nation's celebrated stars James Salinsa Debbah, Jonathan
Sagbuwe and Eugene Nagbe.
The coming in put some threats on the Lone Star full back but
promising defender Solomon Grines and intelligent Omega Roberts
contained their threats.
The Emmanuel Geeza Williams SDU-All Star later managed to get a goal
in the final half through Nicodemus Jacob in the 53rd minute.
The win has put the U-23 National team ahead in the three days
football tournament involving the Indonesian based and SDU All
Stars.
The Indonesian based will begin their campaign on Friday against SDU
All-Stars at the same venue before the meeting the U-23 National
team on Sunday to climax the three days events.
Presently only five players are here so far. They include Joseph
Amoah, Rashidi Williams, Frank Seator, Perry Kollie, Sunday Seah and
Ezeah Benson.
More players continue to leave their bases in Indonesia, and reports
gathered say up to 15 players will be in town for the first match.
Notable absentees will include acrobatic defender Murphy Nagbe,
explosive Zah Krangar, indefatigable Steve Mennoh, and nimble footed
Varney Boikai as well as the accurate passer Dominic Wesseh.
Reports from the players' bases say they are expected to be in the
country by August 1, 2006.
Meanwhile, the duo of Murphy Nagbe and Zah Krangar made history over
the weekend when they led their club Persikapbas in qualifying to
the semi-final of the premiership playoffs.
They achieved such feat when their virtually young squad
surprisingly hammered the country's second biggest club Makassa 5-1.
'The little box of tricks' Zah scored the goal of the match a minute
after the interval when he swerved his way past the entire opposing
defense and then played the ball in an empty net to register his
side's third goal of the match.
They are now 90 minutes in booking a ticket to the Asian club
championship which the entire country would rate as a monumental
achievement for a team making its debut at the top flight.
