Two Sports Journalists Punished

SWAL President Hilary Justin-Kolhnoe

By Julu M. Johnson, Jr.

The leadership of the Sports Writers Association of Liberia (SWAL) has temporarily suspended former SWAL Vice President Horatio Bobby Willie of Star Radio, and Peter N. Toby of The Analyst newspaper for violating the media blackout imposed on David Kortie.

SWAL, in a release, described the action of both Willie and Toby as disappointing. The SWAL leadership declared that the action of the two sports journalists has brought the Association into public ridicule.

The Association has, therefore, decided to have them temporarily suspended pending a meeting with the entire membership on Saturday, May 27, 2006 at 11:00AM at the headquarters of the Press Union of Liberia (PUL) on Clay Street.

The SWAL leadership has, meanwhile, congratulated its members who have been very cooperative in ensuring that the blackout remains effective.

SWAL, once again, appeals to media houses to continue to uphold the blackout on Kortie.
