Two More Pros For Lone Star

Francis Grandpa Doe

By Julu M. Johnson, Jr.

Two additional players from overseas are expected to be part of the Lone Star's delegation to Senegal.

The Liberian national soccer team will meet the Lions of Teranga of Senegal in the combined 2006 World and Nations Cup qualifiers.

According to reports, defender Chris Gbandi and Francis Grandpa Doe, a striker, have volunteered their services for the national team.

Sources have it that the United States players have chosen to play for the Lone Star at their own expense.

Gbandi, who plays for the Dallas Burns, allegedly took the decision because he is being linked to a club in Europe. Thus, constant matches for the national team are likely to brighten his chance.

Ten players from abroad were selected by the Liberia Football Association (LFA) to be combined with eight local players for the trip to Dakar. The foreign-based players include John Menyongar, Kelvin Sebwe, Oliver Makor, George Gebro, Louis Crayton, Dioh Williams and Jimmy Dixon.
