Tricky
Clashes For Sinking Giants
By Julu M. Johnson, Jr.
The weekend promises to be a challenging one for Liberia's
two football giants, Mighty Barrolle and Invincible Eleven (IE).
Both sides have created frowns on the faces of their numerous
fans and supporters having failed to win in the just-started 2005
National League. Runners-up last season, IE or the Yellow Boys have
the Knockout holders LISCR FC as their opponent on Saturday at the
Antoinette Tubman Stadium (ATS). The Sunshine Yellow Boys have lost
one match to premiership surprise package NPA Anchors and drew the
other against to one of last season's bottom clubs, Alliance FC.
Even though LISCR FC, with Hoff Fannoh, Blamo Weah,
Alloycious Pennie, Thomas Nyanfor, Mardia Rennie and George Weah in
readiness, is not the type that gives out points easily, IE fans are
desperate to see their side pull the first victory of the new
campaign.
Before this intriguing clash, Kortie Invincible Eleven (IE)
will lock horns with the revelation of the female second division,
Professional Anchors Sisters. The reigning premier league champions
Mighty Barrolle is faced with even more pressure than their archrivals
IE.
The Rollers have lost all two matches this season and to add
insult to injuries, players of the club have abandoned training
sessions in demand of salaries. However, Mighty Barrolle have Monrovia
Club Breweries at their next opponent on Sunday and a victory is
demanded highly from the Red Boys.
Barrolle has lost several players to rival clubs this season,
yet there is a still better side with the likes of Varmah Kpoto,
Tubman Johnson, Abu Sando, Solomon Grimes and George Miller available.
Also on Sunday at the ATS, the two giants of female soccer,
Tito United and Earth Angels will meet for the first time this
season. On Friday, second division debutante Paynesville Young
Controllers (PYC) is against Barracks Young Controllers (BYC).
The same day, Small Town International of Logan Town will go
against Mighty Electrons of Paynesville. On Wednesday, Watanga FC did
the damage to Karn United with a 2-1 victory as Young Survivors of
Clara Town whipped Roza 3-1.
