To Scout Liberian Players - Cameroonian
Sport Executives Arrive Today
October 27, 2006
A two-man sports delegation from the Republic of Cameroon is
expected in the country today to scout and arrange for the departure
of two local-based Liberian players.
The delegation is headed by Mr. Mohammed Koneh, a Cameroonian sports
executive who has long wished to scout Liberian talents and a
foreign coach who will as well render judgment on the quality of the
players.
Speaking to the INQUIRER sports desk via mobile phone recently, Mr.
Mohammed Koneh said that their visit to the country is to meet with
team executives in the country as well as to discuss about players
that will suit their demands.
He disclosed that they have been tracing the qualities and the
performances of young Liberian players, and as such, have been
attracted and interested in transferring at least two local Liberian
players to Cameroon.
According to him, the players will stay for sometime in Cameroon,
where they will have to justify their inclusion in the Cameroonian
league for on ward contracts.. And Following their justification
they would be taken to France for better contractual arrangements.
Mr. Koneh identified the positions of the two players as a
mid-fielder and a striker; and at least they must have played in the
Liberia Football Association (LFA) premier league, with a
disciplined character. .
He pointed out that the effort is to give Liberian local-based
players the opportunity to advance their skills like other African
players in Europe.
Mr. Koneh disclosed that a very good height, skill and intelligence
will be required of the players and added that the first and
foremost thing of any good player is his character.
The Cameroonian sports official asserted that in order to
demonstrate his seriousness towards the transferring of the players,
he, along with a foreign coach will arrive in the country today to
carry out the assessment.
Mr. Konneh pointed out that the selection and the assessment will
not be done with partiality, but will rather welcome recommendations
as per the skill and behavior of the players in the just ended LFA
premier league.
He furthered that their stay in Liberia will also provide the
opportunity for other Liberian players to be linked to the
Cameroonian league, something he said will be seen as a boost to the
Liberian soccer and its products.
Upon their arrival, the Cameroonian sports solicitors are expected
to visit some high sports institutions including the Ministry of
Youth and Sports, the Liberia National Olympic Committee, LNOC and
the Liberia Football Association amongst others.
It appears that the dream of the Liberian players to be transferred
to some big leagues in the world is gradually coming to fruition,
with more national and international scouts visiting the country.
