-Players Plan Boycott Again
By Julu M. Johnson, Jr.
Matters will certainly go from bad worse if the need for a new
leadership does not occur.
Reports reaching our reporter are that players of both the
basketball and soccer squads of the Invincible Eleven Majestic
Sports Association (IEMSA) are planning to boycott activities of the
team.
It has been gathered that the players have given the IE Board up
to Friday, June 25, to usher in a new leadership.
The players are quoted as saying that if nothing is done to have a
new leadership for IE, they would begin their strike action by
Monday, June 28. The imminent strike would include quitting both the
National Football League and the Basketball Knockout championship.
So far, the only man linked to the IE presidency is the
Comptroller General of the Ministry of Finance, Isaac Nyenabo.
Mr. Nyebao, according to insiders, has of late been shouldering
the responsibilities of the team, including paying per diems and
salaries for the basketball and football teams.
The insiders say the delay in giving Mr. Nyenabo the gavel is
being created by the IE Board, which is clothed with the authority
to do so.
"We need Mr. Nyenabo as quickly as possible but the Board is
dragging its feet," an IE player anonymously said. |
