04-04-2006, 7:50 AM ghana08SA2010 Joined on 03-29-2006 Africa's best hope Guys i have been on other posts and i see the topics are a lil broader. so i thought i would introduce something new. who do y'all think is going to represent Africa the best at the world cup. My money is on the Ivory coast. But hey Ghana is unpredictable and that may work to their advantage. African teams tend to play  more freely and rely on individual brilliance. nobody does it better than Ghana and Nigeria. If Ghana can get out of this group, watch out. I hope Togo and Angola do not turn out to be a 3 points ATM for clubs in eir group    Report

I hope Serbia and Ivory Coast will go further   (sorry LiberianBoy, I know he supports Holland). Oh, yes, Ghana can pass the group too. Tunisia also has a good chance against Ukraine. And Togo and Angola? Well, after their poor performance at the ANC 2006...nah, they won't do anything in my opinion. But I would like for them to prove me wrong. By the same law, it will more likely be a west african team. And by the law of common sense, Ivory coast is the best of the 3    Report

In any case, the Ivory Coast might come home with the best record among the African teams. Be mindful of the zone in which the Ivory Coast was place: Argentina, Holland, and Serbia & Montenegro. I have huge doubts that Ivory Coast will survive this zone in the first round. Argentina is one of the world's powerhouses when it comes to soccer. In the qualifiers for Japan/Korea 2002, Argentina beat Brazil twice (both home and away). And that lessened Brazil's chances of making it to Japan 2002. Anayway, Brazil later beat Bolivia and Chile at home to secure their chances. So, it'll be a hard task for Ivory Coast to even pull a draw against Argentina. Spanish soccer is very fast-paced and Ivory Coast cannot withstand it. Ivory Coast's recent success at the ANC 2006 doesn't seem to prove and anything substantial against her zoners at Germany 2006. It's a tough call for them against Holland and Serbia. Forget about Ghana for they won't do a thing to Italy, Czech Republic, and the United States. Zero chances for Ghana. Cameroon stunned Argentina in 1990 with Oman Biyik memorable header. You can throw the resumes and the pedigrees of the big european teams out the window. Because History tells us that at least one of the favorites will not make it out of their group. Spain in 2002. should i say more    Report

Speaking about the match between France and Senegal, Senegal did play well and yes, the lone goal of the match was a lucky. That wasn't one that Senegal initiated and systematically mobilized her way through to attain. It was just carelessness on France's defense that led to that goal. Misformation also played a part in France's poor performance. Overall, Senegal played well. Back in the 1990s, Cameroon had many outstanding names in world soccer (Roger Milla, for example, and the goal scorer). Now they have Et'o, among others. Bro, history is never constant; it is always changing. What happened yesterday may not happen tomorrow (chances are at 5% or less). Even if it should be repeated, don't count on exactitude. I look forward to seeing your hopes rise up with much splendicity. I would love to see African Teams push through, even to the Grand Finals. Both France and Argentina were defending world cup champs at the time they lost to African teams. So whats your point?  Both Ghana and Ivory coast have world class players in Essien, Appiah, Drogba, Toure and others. I'm sorry i just fail to see your point. One African team will advance and it will be either Ghana or Ivory coast. And then come back and claim it was a lucky goal!    Report

I will, then, communicate with you over the issue if you're still so desired. Ghana cannot and will not win a single game against any of her opponents at Germany 2006. Recent stats show that Team USA is the 5th best team in the world. Italy and Czech Republic are powerhouses. When was the last time Ghana was among Africa's Eilte? Back in the early 90's? Please, bro. Ivory Coast might have a chance. Drogba is a very skillful player. So is Toure. But with Drogba on offense and Toure as a center defender, who else will help trememdously? Remember that there are 11 players on the field. Appiah has gone down the drain for some time now. He's not the Appiah he used to be earlier in the decade. Have you still got more names to mention? And oh yea, did you watch the Arsenal game? remember the name Emmanuel eboue. Hey i do not need to list names here anyway. You will know the names after the world cup. How many senegal superstars you knew before they "luckily" beat france. Your almighty Italy have failed to get out of the group stages of two major tournaments, i.e the last world cup and the european cup. Anybody who knows football (including Bruce Arena) have said that the USA have been overrated, thanks to endless victories against concacaf minors and europeans non qualifiers like Norway. So throw that USA number 5th ranking out the window. Do you really think you live in the 5th ranked soccer country in the world? have you been to an MLS game lately? remember to take your blankets and pillow. Hit the streets and ask the average American when the world cup starts. If you get a correct answer in 100 tries, then come back and let us know. You simply do not get it. sports is not mathematics. So throw the czech republic 2nd world ranking out the window while you at it. If we did football by rankings, there would be no need to take the field. Liberia stood toe to toe with Mexico after losing to the Minnesota thunder.
