The Liberia's Soccer Ambassador, George Manneh Weah has been awarded the Confederation of African Football (CAF) Soccer Legend Award.

The award was presented at a colorful CAF 2006-2007 award ceremony held in Accra, Ghana with hundreds of sports administrators from around the continent of Africa including the various honorees been present.



The Africa's first Federation of International Football Association (FIFA) player of the year 1995 was selected from amongst several legends that according to football record have served the continent of Africa.

With great proud to Africa's oldest Independent Republic, Liberia first football legend George Manneh Weah was handed the CAF prestigious award, while the audience cheered the presentation with gratuity.

The audience responded to Weah's award with high esteem and gratified the moment with a standing ovation.

Even though Liberia was not represented at the ceremony for reasons best known, but Liberians at home and around the world felt the moment as a plus to its long time soccer achievement and historic memory.

Weah, who became Liberia's first football player to surface on the international scene, sealed his soccer career through Cameroon where he displayed with Cameroonian club Tonnerree Yaoundi FC until later went to France.

The Liberian born soccer legend has now succeeded one of Africa's greatest footballers, the Cameroonian born Roger Millar, who has long term served as CAF Soccer Legend.

Moreover, Weah's relative who attended the occasion received the award on behalf of the honoree.

Manneh also plied his soccer career with France Club FC Monaco, Chelsea FC, and Marseille FC of France and captained Liberia to its first Nations' Cup in 1996.

The Liberian Soccer Ambassador later became a politician and participated in the 2005 general and presidential elections.

Meanwhile, Weah is presently in the United States of America, pursuing advance studies.
