By Webster Cassell
The four days tournament organized by the Sillah Foundation has gained
momentum at the Antoinette Tubman Stadium (ATS) with hundreds of sport
lovers turning out in their number to see fine football.
In the first match of the day, LISCR FC pipped the Invincible Eleven
(IE) 2-1 with both teams displaying a high level of soccer.
Though the Yellow Boys demonstrated fine football throughout the
match, a 44-minute strike from LISCR’s Kollie Zayzay got match’s first
goal.
Coming back from the half-time break, I.E showed good display of
football that culminated in the equalizer 10minutes into the second
half from the boots of Ben Miller. However, the I.E fans celebration
for the equalizer was short-lived as Pitman Wleh of LISCR FC scored
the match winner in the 63rd minute.
Following the LISCR’s second goal, the Yellow Boys exerted every
effort to equalize the score but all was in vain as the referee
sounded the end of the match with the score remaining at 2 to 1.
In the second match of the day, Mighty Barrolle defeated LFA champion
Club, LPRC Oilers 1-0 to get their first win of the tourney. Barrolle
dominated the first 4 45minutes of the game until the first half was
over.
Back from break, the Oilers tried to prove their supremacy as
champions by taking control of the first 20minutes in the second half
to no avail.
Barrolle’s Nuzohn Kulala caused the damage to the LFA Champion in the
73minute of the match.
Today, the tournament’s first two defeated teams, LPRC Oilers and
Invincible Eleven (IE) will meet in the first match of the day, while
the first two winners, Mighty Barrolle and LISCR FC are expected to
clash in a showdown that will be full of fire works.
Meanwhile, the US-based Mighty Barrolle Chapter has sent a consignment
of sporting materials to the team.
The US-Barrolle Chapter is headed by the team’s former goalkeeper
Zeogar Wilson, who expressed concern about their team’s future and so,
would content to identify with the club to keep up with its reputation
and prestige.
In another development, Mr. Joe Merchant, president of the Mighty
Barrolle Association has endorsed the new Interim leadership.
