Credible reports gathered by this paper have
indicated that former Liberian International striker; Musa Shannon
will declare his intention to contest the Liberia Football
Association (LFA) elections slated for March 20, 2010.
According to the reports, the 11 caps former
Liberian International and ex- Portuguese club Moritimo striker
will declare his intention to contest the LFA elections as Vice
President for Administration of the local football house.
The reports further revealed that Mr. Shannon
will support well accomplished business man Musa Bility in an
attempt to restore Liberian football that is dying slowly.
It can be recalled in 2009, African football
legend George Oppong Manneh Weah said on BBC that it is time for
the continent football to be run by former footballers.
The statement from Mr. Weah sparked debate in
many quarters as there were contrasting views on said cardinal
issue.
But, with the Liberia Football Association
(LFA) elections slated for March 20, 2010, it is not yet clear who
the FIFA 1995 world footballer of the year will support in the
process, but credible reports have indicated that he could throw
his support behind fellow ex-international Musa Shannon for the
second top local football seat.
Shannon will face a strong opposition from
incumbent, Pennoh Bestman and veteran administrator, Mr. Garmondeh
Karnga for the LFA second top seat.
Shannon is to make this formal at a schedule
news conference later this week
Musa Shannon made his international debut in
the Lone Star 1-0 away win against Chad when a certain French man
Philippe Redon was at the helm of the technical staffers guiding
Kadala Kromah.
There have always being the argument that
those who played football to the highest level should run it,
because they know all about the rudiments of the game.
With Kalusha Bwalya at the helm of Zambian
football and other ex- stars like Roger Milla, Abedi Pele Ayew,
Segun Odegbami, Doctor Khumalo ect playing key roles in the
development of the game in the respective places of birth, Musa
Shannon is keen to do same in the country that is on record for
producing Africa best football in the form of George Oppong Manneh
Weah.
