Major shake up occurred in the Liberia Football Association (LFA)
premiership over the weekend with the championship now an open
venture.
Garmondeh Karnga’s Mighty Barrolle continued great performance for the
championship with a splendid 1-0 win over LFA premiership sentimental
favorite LISCR FC in Buchanan City, Grand Bassa County.
The red and white kayan pepper outfit secured the victory through a
terrific strike from Pathfinder and goal customer, Weaka Wisseh who
got even with Gedi and Sons’ Teku Nahn on 15 goals of the season so
far.
The goal came in the first stanza of the epic clash when midfield
lethal, Little Lewis headed the ball on Liberia’s Lone Star Captain,
Murphy Nagbe’s hand for penalty as Weaka strake beautifully.
The vital win saw Barrolle moved second on the 18 teams’ LFA
premiership with 55 points from 28 matches.
The team got motivated on Friday when president Karnga paid players
for two months ahead of the ambitious encounter against LISCR FC.
Barrack Young Controller (BYC) went down to lackluster defending
champions Black Star 5-2 at the Antoinette Tubman Stadium (ATS) in
Monrovia on the same day, Sunday, September 6, 2009.
Black Star new signing Martin Bestman hat track, Sengbeh Kennedy lone
goal and an own goal from defense ace Myers Gailo were enough to see
the 2008 LFA premiership champions collect the maximum three points.
Matthew Dede returned to BYC squad with a goal after a protracted
period on the sideline, while Emmanuel Sarnoh got the other for the
youthful LFA premiership club.
The defeat was BYC’s second in a roll after suffering a 1-0 defeat to
team of the moment, Mighty Carrolle at the ATS on Thursday of last
week.
At the Nancy Doe Stadium in Kakata, Margibi County, Gabriel Johns’
guided side, LPRC Oilers crippled their chances of clinching the LFA
premiership for the second time when the gold and black outfit settled
to a 1-1 draw with inspirational UMC Roots FC.
Alex Whittmore put the league leader ahead in the first stanza, but
pocketsize midfield hero Jimmy Taylue canceled the oil boys’ lead to
see his side maintained fourth spot on the elite table.
In New Kru Town at the D. Tweh pitch, Francis Saploh’s Monrovia Club
Breweries edged bottom of the table club, FC AK to topple LISCR FC for
fifth spot on the table.
Henry Johnson collected a brace (two goals), while former Tony FC
striker Prince got the other to see the beer boys climbed a little on
the table.
On Saturday of last week, Jubilee FC and Mighty Blue Angel settled to
a 1-1 draw at the ATS in Monrovia.
The league continues on Tuesday of the week with more thrilling
matches.
