Senegal regained top spot in Group Six of the 2010 World Cup
and African Nations Cup qualifiers following their 3-1 win over
Liberia on Saturday.
Defender Ibrahim Sonko put the Teranga Lions on their way with
the opener after just eight minutes of action.
El Hadji Diouf doubled the lead in the 34th minute before Henri
Camara's goal in the 63rd minute.
But the visitors rallied and pulled one back through Zah
Krangar on the stroke of full-time.
The win took Senegal back to the summit of the group with eight
points, two more than previous leaders Algeria who beat
Gambia 1-0 on Friday.
Defender Antar Yahia scored after 31 minutes in Blida to earn
the Desert Foxes the victory over the west Africans.
The Blida clash of nations with realistic ambitions of
finishing at least second and progressing to the final qualifying
phase was overshadowed by Gambian claims that some players were
intimidated during the first game.
Senior Gambian football official Jammeh Bojang informed Fifa
and Caf that two Algerian players told striker Ousman Jallow they
were "terrorists" and threatened to bomb the visitors' hotel in
north Africa.
An Algerian official dismissed the allegations as "baseless".
The match at the Mustapha Tchaker Stadium 50 kilometres south
of capital city Algiers passed without incident.
