SWAL Sinks Sr. Brothers!
-Coach Mulbah’s Job Saved

The Sports Writers Association of Liberia (SWAL), headed by Champions Sports, SportsDay and www.liberiansoccer.com Senior Reporter, Roland M. Mulbah as head Coach, secured a crucial win against Senior Brothers Old-time Sports Association on Sunday, November 22, 2009 at the Stephen A. Tolbert sports pitch in Gardnersville.

The match was part of activities marking the 23 anniversary of the association.

The Pen Pushers edged the newly formed LONA outfit 4-3 in a match dominated by Coach Mulbah’s guided side.

Days before the epic clash, the leadership of SWAL issued warning letter to Coach Mulbah stating he would be sacked if he doesn’t win the match.

With such pressure emerging from the leadership of SWAL, the young coach designed some critical formations in an attempt to pull a win and save his job.

The match began with both teams mounting early minutes pressure to outdo each other.

Senior brothers came closed to rattling the net in the early minutes after the team’s President Mr. Lahai N. Dukuly, who also served as Captain ran the entire SWAL defense, but a well built SWAL’s defense contained the pressure.

But just 13 minutes into the clash, Senior Brothers went on top from a free kick beautifully executed by Eric Doe.

The early goal did not put the Pen Pushers in any hurry situation as Power FM’s O’Neal Roberts quickly replied for SWAL and added another to see the Pen Pushers in a 2-1 lead.

The two goals put Senior Brothers in complete disarray as SWAL took full control of the duel with veteran Malcolm W. Joseph, skill workshop Wleh “Jean Bedell, Abraham “God Sent” Wheon, Julius Konton, Vofe Donzo and Winston Gaye at their best.

Coach Mulbah’s guided side than increased the visitors’ burden with a fantastic goal from defender Benho as the first stanza ended 3-1 in SWAL’s favor.

Back from recess, Senior Brothers escalated enormous pressure to reduce the score line, but SWAL resisted and added another goal after Wheon rattled the net.

What was considered a bias officiating saw the Lahai N. Dukuly boys pulled two offside goals to end the match 4-3.

After the match, SWAL Head Coach, Mulbah was delighted and hailed players of SWAL for such vital victory which secured his job.
