SDU All-Stars in Homeless World Cup Crucial Stage


Homeless footballers from 48 countries around the world are centre stage in South Africa this week as they battle it out for the fourth annual Homeless World Cup in Cape Town.

Liberia Sports to Develop the Underprivileged All-Stars is said to be putting on a good fight in the ongoing Homeless World Cup competition in Cape Town, South Africa.

According to reports from South Africa, the Emmanuel Geeza Williams' Sports to Develop-Underprivileged (SDU) All Stars, which is making its debut at the event finished first in the group with a successful victory in her three matches.

The Liberian side on Sunday narrowly defeated Zimbabwe 3 goals to 2 in one of the opening matches.

Prefer finisher Sawie Bless Pewee scored the hat-trick for his side.

On Monday, the team played two pairing matches with the tournament favorite Portugal, and Sweden.

In the game with Portugal, which many analysts regarded as the second strongest European side, Liberia took a convincing 2-0 victory with distance shooter, Fallah Harris, alias 'Iron Monkey', netting in the two goals.

The second match was a complete holiday for the Liberian SDU All-Stars when they completely buried their Swedish counterpart with 10 goals to 1.

Prefect finisher Sawie Bless Pewee was in his hat-trick fashion, thus increasing his number of goals to six in the competition.

Distance shooter Fallah Harris was also on target with two goals bringing his credit to four. Tibias Beysolow, Bobby Niare and midfielder Chris Blaty, netted in two goals each while Cherie Kpanneh Sayon was also on the scoring line with one goal.

The team's victory in three matches has put her on top of her group with 9 points, which automatically qualified the home side for the knockout stage of the competition. Liberia was paired against Portugal, Zimbabwe, and Sweden in her group.

Liberia is among 48 countries from other parts of the world that are participating in the Homeless World Cup tournament in Cape Town.


The Sports to Develop the Under Privileged (SDU) is aimed at using sports especially football, to address problems of homelessness around the world. By organizing a Liberian side for the competition, the SDU hopes to take a tremendous step toward realizing its dreams.

The players in the Liberian All-Stars Homeless World Cup team had all experienced problems associated with homelessness: Many of them lost their parents and siblings during the civil war and subsequently found themselves homeless and excluded from society.

The SDU and the Homeless World Cup are helping to change these players' lives. As one player noted, "I lost my parents during the war, but since getting on the All-Star Homeless World Cup team, I am no longer alone; I have found a family."
